Author Guidelines

1. General Requirements

Authors must read and comply with these Author Guidelines before submitting a manuscript to Deskomvis. Manuscripts that do not meet minimum administrative, technical, ethical, scope, or scholarly requirements may be returned for revision or declined during Initial Editorial Assessment without external peer review.

2. Manuscript Eligibility

Deskomvis primarily publishes Original Research Articles. Original research may include empirical research, design research / practice-based research, and case-, corpus-, artefact-, or phenomenon-based research, provided that the manuscript produces identifiable original findings, analyses, interpretations, design outcomes, knowledge, or scholarly contributions.

Deskomvis does not accept stand-alone literature review manuscripts, including Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR), scoping reviews, bibliometric reviews, narrative literature reviews, integrative literature reviews, or other manuscripts whose primary contribution is the synthesis or mapping of previously published literature.

3. Originality and Exclusive Submission

Submitted manuscripts must be original scholarly work, must not have been published in substantially the same form, and must not be under consideration elsewhere. The manuscript must be free from plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate data or image manipulation, unauthorized authorship, citation manipulation, peer-review manipulation, duplicate submission, and other forms of misconduct.

4. Language

Deskomvis publishes manuscripts in English. Titles, abstracts, keywords, main text, tables, figure captions, declarations, and references must be prepared in clear and academically appropriate English.

5. Manuscript Format and Length

Manuscripts must be prepared using the current official Deskomvis Article Template and submitted in an editable .doc or .docx format. The manuscript should contain approximately 3,500–8,000 words, including references, tables and figures, excluding appendices where applicable.

6. Title

The title should be concise, specific, and informative and normally contain approximately 10-15 words. It should accurately represent the article and avoid unnecessarily broad wording and unexplained abbreviations.

7. Author Names, Affiliations, and OJS Metadata

Author names must be written without academic titles. Each author must have a clear institutional affiliation including institution, city, and country. The corresponding author must be identified with an active email address. Author names and order in the manuscript must match the OJS metadata exactly.

For authors with a single-word personal name, the same name should be entered in both the given-name and family-name fields in OJS so that metadata remain machine-readable and consistent.

8. Abstract

The abstract must be a single stand-alone paragraph of approximately 150–250 words. It should state, as appropriate, the research context or significance, objective, method, principal findings, and conclusion. The abstract must not contain citations, figure/table references, or extended discussion.

9. Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords or key phrases representing the principal concepts of the article and supporting discoverability.

10. Article Structure

Original Research Articles should normally contain: Introduction; Methods; Results and Discussion; Conclusion; Acknowledgements (optional); Declarations; References. A justified variation may be considered where required by the research design, provided that the article preserves clear scholarly logic.

11. Introduction

The Introduction should establish the research problem and significance, provide an adequate state of the art, identify a research gap or other justified basis for originality, explain the expected novelty or scholarly contribution, and state a clear research objective and/or research question. The literature discussion should be selective, critical, and directly relevant to the study rather than functioning as a stand-alone review article.

12. Methods

The Methods section must explain how the research was conducted with sufficient detail for critical evaluation. Depending on the study, it should describe research design, object/corpus/participants/data sources, sampling or selection, instruments, procedures, data collection, analytical method, validation or trustworthiness, and ethical considerations where applicable.

13. Results and Discussion

Results should present the principal findings clearly and accurately. The Discussion should interpret the findings, connect them to the research objective and relevant concepts/theory, compare them critically with current research, explain agreements or differences, and articulate the article's original contribution and implications. The discussion must go beyond merely restating or describing the results.

14. Conclusion

The Conclusion must directly answer the research objective and/or research question, synthesize the principal findings, and clarify the study's scholarly contribution. Where appropriate, it may state theoretical, practical, methodological, or design implications and directions for future research. It must not introduce substantial new evidence.

15. Acknowledgements

An Acknowledgements section is optional and may recognize individuals, institutions, communities, technical assistance, access to research sites or materials, or other non-author contributions. Funding must be disclosed separately under Declarations.

16. Declarations

Mandatory for all manuscripts:

  • Author Contributions Statement;
  • Funding Statement;
  • Conflict of Interest / Competing Interests Statement; and
  • Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Statement.

Where applicable to the study:

  • Data Availability Statement; and
  • Ethical Approval / Ethical Compliance Statement.

Author Contributions Statement

State the substantive contribution of each author to the research and preparation of the manuscript. Contributions may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, visualization, writing, supervision, or other relevant roles. The CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) may be used where appropriate. All listed authors must have made a genuine scholarly contribution and must approve the final version of the manuscript. For single-author manuscripts, provide an appropriate sole-author contribution statement.

Funding Statement

Disclose all financial or specific funding support, including funder and grant number where applicable. If no specific funding was received, state this explicitly.

Conflict of Interest / Competing Interests

Disclose any actual, potential, or perceived competing interest. If none exists, state this explicitly.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Authors must disclose any material use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the research process or manuscript preparation. The statement should identify the tool and purpose where applicable. AI cannot be listed as an author and does not replace author responsibility.

Data Availability Statement — If Applicable

Provide a Data Availability Statement where the study generates, analyses, or relies on research data for which access, availability, repository location, restrictions, or supporting materials are relevant. If not relevant to the nature of the study, this subsection may be omitted.

Ethical Approval / Ethical Compliance — If Applicable

Studies requiring ethical oversight must provide the name of the approving body, approval number where applicable, and relevant ethical information. For research not requiring formal approval but involving ethical considerations, provide an appropriate Ethical Compliance Statement. If not applicable, this subsection may be omitted.

17. Figures, Tables, and Visual Material

All figures and tables must be numbered consecutively, cited in the text, and supplied with informative captions. Table titles are placed above tables; figure captions are placed below figures. Tables must remain editable and must not be screenshots. Figures should be clear and of publication quality. Authors are responsible for source attribution and permissions for third-party material.

18. References and Citations

Manuscripts must contain at least 15 references. More than 80% should consist of primary scholarly or research-based sources, and more than 80% should normally have been published within the last 10 years. Older classic or foundational sources may be used where academically necessary.

Citations and references must follow APA Style, 7th Edition, consistently. A reference-management application such as Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote, or equivalent should be used. Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list and every reference-list entry must be cited in the manuscript.

19. Similarity and Research Integrity

The overall similarity index is normally expected to be below 20% at editorial screening. Similarity is evaluated contextually and is not treated as automatic proof of plagiarism.

20. Required Submission Files

  • manuscript prepared with the current official Deskomvis Article Template;
  • high-resolution figure files where required; and
  • ethical approval, consent, permissions, supplementary materials, datasets, or other supporting documents where applicable.
