Journal History

2020 — Establishment

Deskomvis: Jurnal Ilmiah Desain Komunikasi Visual, Seni Rupa dan Media was first published in March 2020 as a scholarly publication platform in the fields of visual communication design, visual arts, digital art, visual culture, and media.

2021 — Editorial Transition and Publication Interruption

In 2021, Deskomvis underwent an editorial-team transition. During this period, coordination and service-provider problems resulted in a temporary interruption of publication activities. The previous journal website was discontinued, and some submission and archive data from that period could not be fully recovered.

2024 — Change of Open-Access License

Beginning with Vol. 5 No. 1 (March 2024), Deskomvis changed its publication license from Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) to Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), supporting wider lawful reuse and dissemination of published scholarship.

2025 — Platform Relaunch and English-Language Publication

Deskomvis resumed publication activities through its current journal platform in May 2025. Because the previous system could not be fully recovered, only the editions and article records that remained available could be restored to the current platform.

Volumes 1 (2020) and 2 (2021), originally published through the journal's former website, were restored and re-uploaded to the current platform as part of this archival recovery process. These records are maintained for historical preservation, bibliographic continuity, and continued scholarly access. The re-upload does not constitute a new publication, and the original volume, issue, and publication-year designations have been retained.

Beginning with Vol. 6 No. 1 (2025), Deskomvis publishes articles in English to support wider scholarly communication, discoverability, indexing, and international readership.

Editorial and Governance Reform — Vol. 7 No. 3 (2026)

Beginning with manuscripts processed for Vol. 7 No. 3 (2026) and subsequent issues, Deskomvis implemented a comprehensive revision of its editorial governance, Author Guidelines, Article Template, peer-review documentation, publication policies, and article requirements.

The revision was undertaken in response to the updated national journal-accreditation framework established through Decree of the Director General of Science and Technology No. 374/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026 concerning the Technical Guidelines for Scientific Journal Accreditation (Petunjuk Teknis Akreditasi Jurnal Ilmiah). Its implementation was formally communicated to scientific journal managers through Letter No. 922/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026 dated 10 August 2026.

The major changes introduced from Vol. 7 No. 3 (2026) include:

  • revision of the Focus and Scope, Author Guidelines, and Article Template, with clearer requirements concerning originality, research gaps, methodology, analytical depth, and scholarly contribution;
  • clarification that Deskomvis primarily publishes Original Research Articles and does not accept stand-alone literature review manuscripts, including Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR);
  • strengthening of the double-blind peer-review process and reviewer governance;
  • adoption and strengthening of policies on Artificial Intelligence (AI), publication ethics, research integrity, authorship, conflicts of interest, plagiarism and similarity, and post-publication actions;
  • introduction of clearer article declarations, including Author Contributions, Funding, Conflict of Interest, and AI Use, with Data Availability and Ethical Approval statements where applicable; and
  • improvement of journal transparency concerning publication schedules, charges, open access, copyright and licensing, editorial governance, archiving, and other publishing policies.

These reforms were introduced to strengthen the journal's editorial transparency, research integrity, peer-review accountability, and consistency of scholarly publishing practices.
