Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

DESKOMVIS recognizes that generative AI and AI-assisted technologies may be used in research and scholarly writing, but their use must not compromise originality, confidentiality, accountability, authorship, research integrity, or independent scholarly judgment.

1. AI Cannot Be an Author

Artificial Intelligence systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, ethical compliance, or accountability required of authors.

2. Author Disclosure

Authors must disclose whether generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in preparing the manuscript or conducting research-related activities. Where used, the disclosure must identify the tool or system and explain the purpose and extent of use sufficiently for editorial transparency.

Material uses that should be disclosed include generation or substantial rewriting of text, translation or language transformation beyond ordinary spelling/grammar correction, generation or transformation of images or audiovisual material, code generation, data processing or analytical assistance, literature summarization, or other AI-supported activities that materially affected the research or manuscript.

3. Author Responsibility

Authors remain fully responsible for every part of the submitted manuscript. AI output must be verified for accuracy, originality, fabricated references, misleading claims, inappropriate reuse, bias, and confidentiality risks. AI must not be used to fabricate data, references, participants, findings, research images, or other research records.

4. AI-Generated or AI-Modified Visual Material

Where AI-generated or AI-modified visual material forms part of the research object, design process, method, or dataset, authors must describe its role transparently and provide sufficient methodological information for readers to understand how it was produced and used.

5. Editor Use of AI

Editors may use AI-assisted technologies only for limited administrative or technical support when confidentiality, data protection, and journal policy permit. AI must not replace scholarly assessment, determine novelty, evaluate methodological validity, decide acceptance or rejection, or substitute for the independent judgment of the responsible editor.

Editors must not upload unpublished manuscripts or confidential editorial materials to external AI services unless the journal has specifically authorized a secure environment with appropriate safeguards.

6. Reviewers: Use Prohibited

Peer reviewers are prohibited from using generative AI or AI-assisted systems in the peer-review process. This prohibition includes using AI to read, summarize, analyze, assess, score, evaluate, draft or rewrite review comments, or recommend a decision, and includes uploading or transmitting any part of the manuscript or confidential review material to an AI system.

7. Sample AI Use Statements

No AI used: “The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the preparation of this manuscript or in the research activities reported in this article.”

AI used: “The authors used [tool/system] for [specific purpose]. All AI-assisted output was reviewed and verified by the authors, who take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of the manuscript.”
